A trip from May 26 to 28 between Belgium and the Netherlands-between workshops, a seminar moment hosted in the prestigious setting of the Erasmus Pavilion of the University of Rotterdam and visits to production plants-revealed an industrial ecosystem undergoing profound transformation and rich in new opportunities for Italian mechanics.

There is one area of Europe that, more than others, is undergoing a silent but profound transformation. It is the Benelux, an industrial and logistical crossroads, a laboratory of advanced technologies and a meeting point between manufacturing tradition and the new frontiers of energy, mechanics and sustainability. And it is precisely here that a strategic mission aimed at closely understanding the needs of local businesses and assessing new opportunities for collaboration for our production system took place.

It was a journey that confirmed a simple truth: Benelux is not only an interesting market, it is an industrial ecosystem looking for reliable, competent and flexible partners. And we have all the credentials to be so.
A changing territory: less domestic production, more skilled outsourcing
The first element that emerged clearly is the well-established tendency of companies in the area to gradually reduce in-house production. Many incumbent companies, even large ones, have transformed their factories into design, engineering and service centers, outsourcing the production of mechanical components, carpentry, castings, forgings and finished parts.

This scenario opens up significant space for suppliers capable of guaranteeing:
- complex mechanical machining,
- Heavy and structural carpentry,
- Forged and cast components,
- assemblies and finished parts,
- High-volume serial productions to design.
The demand is not generic: it is technical, precise, often urgent. And above all, it cuts across very different sectors.
From ship propulsion to compressed air: a mosaic of needs
During the mission, actors active in extremely diverse fields were met:
- Marine propulsion systems and thrusters,
- Compressed air and gas equipment,
- Energy and steel infrastructure,
- hydraulic components,
- thermal utilities for chemical, pharmaceutical and food,
- offshore and pipeline systems.
Despite the variety of sectors, there is one common thread: the search for reliable manufacturing partners with advanced skills and the ability to handle complex components.
Many companies have already initiated formal evaluation processes, requesting technical documentation, information on production capabilities and, in several cases, sending requests for bids for specific components. On several occasions a confidentiality agreement has been requested, a sign of concrete interest and a potential path to collaboration.

A positive reception and potential to be cultivated
Perhaps most notable was the recognition by the companies met of the soundness and quality of our production system. Many interlocutors expressed their intention to share the information gathered with other internal divisions, further expanding the reach.
In some cases, formal requests for forged components, machining or serial production have already arrived. In others, a technical dialogue has opened that could result in medium- to long-term projects, especially in the naval, energy and hydrogen sectors.

Why Benelux really matters
This mission was not just a round of meetings. It was the first stage of a broader journey to establish a stable presence in an area that combines:
- High industrial density,
- propensity for innovation,
- Strong openness to outsourcing,
- Growing interest in qualified European suppliers,
- Significant investment in sustainability and decarbonization.
Benelux is a market that cannot be conquered in one fell swoop: it requires continuity, dialogue, reliability. But the signs gathered clearly show that there is a real space to build solid and lasting relationships.

A glimpse into the future
Work now continues on several fronts:
- management of RFQs received,
- Technical insights with the engineering departments of the companies met,
- Assessment of required production capabilities,
- Building a stable channel of communication and follow-up.
The mission demonstrated that the industrial potential of the Benelux is broad, concrete and perfectly aligned with our competencies. Cultivating it means opening new opportunities for our companies, strengthening our international presence and contributing to the growth of a more integrated and competitive European ecosystem.
The journey has just begun, but the direction is right.
