Italian Qualified Manufacturing Summit: success in Lucerne for the debut of the “G” quality mark

Lucerne, Nov. 26 – TheItalian Qualified Manufacturing Summit, an event that marked the official debut of the “G” consortium quality label promoted by GSL, was held at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne with a highly positive outcome. The initiative represented a moment of synthesis and revitalization of a journey that began more than 30 years ago, laying the foundations for a new phase of enhancement of Italian industrial subcontracting in international markets.

The event was attended by a targeted selection of about ten qualified customers from the industrial supply chain in the Lucerne area, who were involved in a high value-added convention moment designed to present not just a brand, but a real system of process assurance, quality and reliability.

Origins and vision: a talk by President Cinzia Cagliani

Opening the proceedings was GSL President Cinzia Cagliani, who took those present on a journey of storytelling and vision, tracing the origins and evolution of the Consortium. Since 1991 GSL has been operating with the aim of uniting skills, companies and people to give strength, identity and recognition to Italian industrial subcontracting in the European context. Since its first official presentation in Zurich in 1994, the network has gradually expanded, maintaining a consistent growth based on relationships of trust and collaboration.

In her speech, the president highlighted the added value of the GSL model, which is based on technical expertise, reliability and structured cooperation among enterprises. Not a simple aggregation, but a network capable of operating as a coordinated production system, able to meet the challenges of the global market with solidity and flexibility.

A central passage was devoted to the ministerial recognition of the Process Guarantee Mark, which certifies the Consortium’s commitment to quality, transparency and consistency of production processes. In this context, the “G” mark was presented as more than a graphic symbol: a collective commitment to traceability, sustainability and verifiable quality standards.

Cagliani also stressed the key role of the Control Committee, defined as the “voice of quality,” guarantor of strict compliance with the Technical Specification. This is complemented by the nonprofit nature of GSL, which reinvests all its resources in strengthening the network, training and innovation, making the brand a heritage shared by all member companies.

In closing, the president recalled the concepts of vision, responsibility and trust, urging us to look to the future with solid roots and an open eye to innovation and people.

The technical heart of the “G” brand: a presentation by Eng. Paolo Paruta

The contribution ofEngineer Paolo Paruta, Head of Technical Management and Coordinator of the Audit Committee, provided an in-depth and structured reading of the operational framework that supports the “G” mark. His talk illustrated how quality is governed through a rigorous methodological system designed to operate in highly complex industrial sectors such as aerospace, defense, naval, offshore, nuclear, energy, steel, general mechanics, carpentry, foundry, components, and biomedical.

Paruta described the breadth of GSL’s technology portfolio, which includes large-scale mechanical machining, high precision, heavy and light carpentry, tooling and molds, heat and surface treatments, and even additive technologies. In support of these capabilities, the Consortium aggregates an extensive and diversified fleet of machines capable of responding to complex, multidisciplinary projects.

A central element of the model is the GSL work process, which is divided into sequential stages: project analysis, quotation and planning, coordinated production, quality control and final logistics. This approach allows the client to interface with a single organized system, even when the project involves multiple companies in the network.

To ensure the uniformity and effectiveness of the process, GSL has developed proprietary technology datasets that faithfully replicate the reality of suppliers: workable materials, machine fleet, technology models and production capabilities. Parts are classified using coded systems, allowing each component to be associated with the most suitable supplier.

The selection and monitoring of companies is based on objective performance indicators (KPIs), which measure product quality, on-time delivery, complaint management, customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. This system makes it possible to identify and enhance the best production capabilities while ensuring continuous improvement.

In connecting technique and vision, Paruta recalled the founding values of the “G” brand: the balance between the heart, understood as passion, reliability and motivation, and the brain, represented by operational methodology, structured knowledge and strategic planning. Hence the pillars of the GSL model: integrated supply chain, process assurance, effectiveness, reliability and competitiveness.

A contribution of excellence: the vision of Salvatore Buontempo

The day was further enriched by the speech of Salvatore Buontempo, INFN Research Executive – Naples Section and CERN Associate, who brought concrete examples of scientific and technological excellence. Through real cases, Buontempo showed how synergy between coordinated competencies is the basis of the most important innovations, a principle perfectly aligned with the “G” brand philosophy and the network model promoted by GSL.

Conclusions and perspectives

The debut of the “G” quality label in Lucerne confirmed the validity of a project built on solid foundations, capable of combining strategic vision, technical rigor and shared values. The qualified participation, the high level of content and the quality of the discussion made the Italian Qualified Manufacturing Summit a landmark moment for the dialogue between Italian companies and the European market.

The “G” brand is now proposed as a distinctive and credible tool to strengthen the competitiveness of Italian SMEs, offering international customers a concrete guarantee of quality, reliability and process governance. A significant first step toward an increasingly integrated, recognizable and future-oriented supply chain.
